Are
you sick of hearing ‘That’s So Gay’ and still don’t
know what to do about it?
Do you want a simple plan to challenge homophobia in your classroom?
Could your school benefit from PD described as “the best I’ve
had in years!”?
Drawing on a decade of experiences Daniel Witthaus,
an internationally recognised authority in challenging homophobia, offers
Australian teachers a step-by-step guide to safely negotiating the subject
in everyday classrooms.
Daniel regularly shares his recipes for electrifying
staffrooms, exciting classrooms and liberating educators. Rather than
feeling overwhelmed and unable to respond to a “rampant” educational
reality, teacher benefit from learning:
- The necessary foundations and context for any school-based,
challenging homophobia program
- Practical strategies and frameworks for understanding
sexual identity, coming out and challenging a variety of homophobic
behaviours in young people and adults that can be used immediately in
their classrooms and the schoolyard
- Exactly what happens (in vivid detail!) in classrooms
and staffrooms when sexual diversity is affirmed and homophobia is challenged.
Daniel’s eagerly sought-after presentations
and workshops provide many strategies and an approach that makes many
teachers’ lives easier and, dare he say, professionally more interesting
too. He has worked with countless school communities particularly those
in regional and outer metropolitan Australia. This work has included work
with co-educational, single sex, religious, public and private schools,
as well as universities across three states.
The training is will appeal to educators who:
- Have observed homophobia in their school, yet feel
it is one for the ‘too-hard basket
- Are sick of hearing ‘That’s So Gay’
and not knowing whether or how to respond
- Know they have gay and lesbian students at their
school but are not sure of how best to support them
- Believe that only non-heterosexual teachers can
challenge homophobia
- Are concerned about how parents and the broader
school community will respond when sexually diversity is discussed in
classrooms.
There are three training opportunities:
- Students
- Teachers (inc. non-school staff)
- School Communities
